Moreover, for more customized solutions a dentist may take a mold of the mouth with soft material and develop a custom fit denture that will gradually be designed and tested with weekly visits from the patient. What types of dentures are there?

  1. Full Dentures

Full dentures are used when all of the teeth have been removed. The dentist may extract the remaining teeth to prepare for full denture treatment. After all the teeth are removed, the gums require 4-6 weeks to heal; immediate dentures may be used during this time.

      2.Partial Dentures

When several, but not all, teeth are lost, partial dentures fill the gaps of the missing teeth while also acting as a prevention for tooth shifting.

What to expect when beginning to use dentures?

Typically, patients experience soreness in the gums, increased saliva flow, and difficulty chewing and speaking. These are all temporary, however, and the effects will subside with time.

How long do dentures last?

On average, dentures have a lifespan of 7 to 10 years. If dentures are older than 10 years, consult a dentist to assess whether they are still functioning properly.
